Valentine's Day Ornaments

Generally, I'm not big on decorating for Valentine's Day; the whole concept tends to make me think of Mrs. Nelson's third grade classroom and lots of crepe paper -- more sugary than sophisticated.

But this year I had a bare white branch on our living room shelf that was left over from Christmas.  I think I heard it crying, "Decorate me!"  And when your leftover Christmas decorations give you orders, you have to comply.

Here's how I made these easy heart ornaments:

I picked up these felt stickers on sale at Michaels; I think I paid a dollar for each package.

To make the ornaments, I just peeled the backing off a sticker:

Then I cut a piece of ribbon, made a loop, and pressed the ends down against the sticky side:

The backs were quite sticky, so a light press with my finger was enough to adhere the ribbon very securely.

Then I peeled the backing off of a matching sticker and pressed the two stickers, sticky sides together with the ribbon sandwiched in between:

Easy ornaments that add a cute touch of Valentine's Day cheer to a corner of our living room.

I added some felt garland (also from Michael's) to the vase with sticky tape:

I'm quite happy with my crepe-paper-free Valentine's Day decorating!

  2. Those are adorable!!! Very fun and festive. :) Thanks for the visit...I eyed the KM camera bags too, but the JoTotes were slightly more in my price range. Maybe someday! ;) On a side note, what program do you use to edit your photos?

    1. For this post I just edited the photos in Picasa, which I love.

But I recently bought Photoshop CS3 for $100 from an acquaintance who was upgrading, and I'm using that for my 365 Project. The learning curve is STEEP and I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface of what it can do. But it's fun to tinker with.

I always meant to check out Picnik but never got around to it -- good decision in retrospect! :)

  3. What adorable ornaments! I think felt looks so much nicer than foam. Your whole mantel-scape looks very nice .
