Breakfast Nook

This is really an "in progress" look at my breakfast nook -- which is actually more of an "eating" nook, since it's where all the meals in our house are eaten.

The space is just a small area at one end of the kitchen.  It faces east, so it's flooded with sunlight throughout the morning.  I ran with the sunny vibe, choosing a light yellow with warm orange undertones for the walls (Benjamin Moore's Macadamia Nut).

I replaced a boring fake-brass pendant light that was there when we moved in with the George Nelson saucer pendant lamp.  The table and chairs were Mr. E's and are from Ikea.

This poster is the only piece of art in this small area so far:

When I bought the poster, Mr. E wondered if it might be a too little racy.  "What are we going to tell the kids when they ask what the bananas are doing?" he said.  "Dancing," I told him.

Still to do:  I have a couple of small red frames that I think will be perfect for the wall perpendicular to the poster.  I need to figure out what to put in them.  There are a bunch of possibilities in my Etsy favorites folder.

I'm also on the hunt for a retro-ish red clock to hang above the poster.  This one, from Target, is a possibility:

By the way, those kids were just hypothetical back when we bought the house, but now they're very real -- and they enjoy this space every day:

That's the fifteen-month-old on the left and the eight-week-old snoozing on the right.  Neither has asked any questions about the banana poster yet.

UPDATE:  I bought the clock and chose some artwork for those red frames.  Check out the updated breakfast nook here.

  1. This whole posting is a hoot. I love the look, love the light fixture, and love the poster. Swinging by from Favorite Paint Colors--- everything looks great. (And congratulations on the new baby, too!)
